Food Services Assistant (Food Service Assistant)

The incumbent is responsible for clerical and budgeting duties as assigned by the Food Service Administrator. The incumbent is expected to apply a working knowledge of policies and procedures as related to this office and the food service aspect of the institution. Types and proof reads a wide range of correspondence, memorandums, reports and other written material. Gathers basic data for Food Service research. Enters and retrieves data, using Food Service programs, on a personal computer and maintains disks with back-up copies. Utilizes electronic systems equipment in data transmission as related to Food Service activities. Maintains systematic files, ledgers, stock index records, inventory accountability procedures through posting receivers. Issuing subsistence, using First-In First-Out (FIFO) rotation for daily inventory accountability. Checks compliance and accuracy of receivers against purchase requests and purchase orders when received to ensure receivers are complete. Documents partial shipments until fulfilled, maintains a running accountability of each item with correct FIFO procedures. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR Experience You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are listed per grade:
Experience in answering telephone inquiries, receiving and screening calls and properly routing matters to the appropriate personnel. Experience in ordering and maintaining office supplies and equipment. Experience in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reports for submission and typing purchase requests. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
